The Worksafe Dunedin office has a new home in the 130 year old John Colours Ltd building, located in the heart of the Dunedin Heritage precinct.
Worksafe selected the industrial 2nd floor space for their new location as a sign of support for local building owners working to preserve our architectural heritage. The importance of preservation was carried throughout the design, where new materials distinguish themselves from the original, and century old graffitied columns sit within the contemporary work environment.
The fitout design was approached as a series of installed boxes, which slide in below existing beam heights to allow full appreciation of the impressive roof structure and original craftsmanship. Meeting rooms and social spaces can close for privacy and fully open up to the main space, creating a flexible floor plan which can adapt to both day-to-day use and larger gatherings.
High security requirements were neccessary and carefully integrated within the design, to achieve a safe work environment for staff and at the same time, a welcoming experience for visitors.
