An extensive redevelopment of the existing Invercargill Police Station. The concept provides two block ends to an existing 3 storey structure, splitting the additional 650m2 (approx.) floor area required into two volumes, facilitating optimal functional performance between both existing and new facilities. Modular composite aluminium panel ends are linked together on the Northern Façade by two bands of aerofoil louvers providing both sun protection and a visual dialogue between old and new. The intention of the bold modern structure was to create a focal point, engendering connotations of permanence, stature, dependability, efficiency, reliability and trust, and yet be transparent enough to see open, visual lines of communication.
