After a nine year gestation process this challenging heritage restoration has been successfully brought to fruition. It involved a talented team of various design specialists to balance all aspects of its rebirth from a Methodist seminary constructed in 1926 to today. It required a cutting-edge seismic upgrade to reinforce the solid single skin brickwork, to restrain parapets and repair its weather worn stone and brick facade.
This building has been able to achieve a 67% NTS seismic rating. Avery Associates Team Architects provided Sydney architects WMK with local knowledge and coordination through the prolonged design, detailing, and consenting phases. Senior Associate Nick Melrose oversaw general construction and all roof parapet replacement detailing and construction. Warwick Bell performed a detailed construction overview to satisfy Auckland Council who described the extensive modern take on traditional detailing as extraordinary and unique.
