Work has begun on the rebuilding of Priya Indian Restaurant which was gutted by a deliberately lit fire last year (2018). The original building construction was of concrete beams, brick infill walls, hardwood timber floor and roof trusses. Critical thinking saved the existing structure from demolition and it is being reused in the rebuild, with only the roof and trusses being replaced.
The rebuild afforded the opportunity to strengthen the 1920s building to 100%NBS and to correct historic boundary encroachments which will allow it to be separated onto its own certificate of title and sold in the future.
The restaurant interior was re-planned to accommodate additional tables, a flexible private function area, a café style counter and a better functioning kitchen.
The adjoining buildings which suffered smoke and water damage are being refurbished at the same time.
