A new multi sports facility named Atawhai was recently opened at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School in Christchurch.
The building has become the school’s sports and physical education hub and completes a masterplan of the campus conceived following the Canterbury earthquakes.
The new complex sits at the main entry to the school, opening out onto the adjacent sports fields. The primary feature of the ground floor is a gymnasium sports hall intended for regional use, especially basketball. There is also a welcoming foyer, fitness centre and ancillary changing rooms.
On the first floor there are four teaching spaces alongside sports and PE offices, with a mezzanine overlooking the gymnasium space.
Atawhai will also function as an assembly and performance space designed to house all students and staff at the school.
