A new facility for the National Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research in Twizel, designed by TEAM Architects, opened in late 2021.
The new facility provides office space, a meeting room, staff facilities, a laboratory and workshop, and a boat and vehicle garage. The building has a number of sustainability features including a warm roof and warm wall construction, with rainwater harvesting, PV solar panels, heat recovery ventilation and electric vehicle charging points.
TEAM Architects Greymouth Principal, Wayne Kelsall, says the facility provides a modern base for NIWA’s field teams conducting research in the Mackenzie region.
The facility is similar to but larger than the Greymouth facility which opened in 2019, also designed by TEAM Architects. TEAM Architects Christchurch provided construction observation and administration services for the project; another great demonstration of how we work successfully as one TEAM.
