The Ngaio Scout Hall had its official opening last weekend, in time for the 2019 Scout year. For many years the Ngaio Scout Group, in Wellington, sought to improve their ‘humble’ hall. The original relocated building had been extended twice but still had poor light and storage with minimal kitchen and toilet facilities - not suitable for running a contemporary Scout Group. After years of fundraising and saving the Scouts purchased the land their hall was located on, and in 2013, BKB Team Architects were engaged to assist with improvements on their tight site alongside the Johnsonville railway line.
After protracted resource consent challenges, funding shortfall, asbestos removal and finding the main electrical feed to the neighbouring railway line running through the construction site, building got underway mid-2018. The project was over a decade in the making and received well by Scouts, children and adults alike.
